There’s £800,000 extra funding to support the 73,000 carers in Devon, and just how that the support will be given is being investigated by county-wide health and well-bing checks.
Some 37 GP surgeries, as well a some pharmacies, memory cafés, Black and Minority Ethnic centres, and St John Ambulance have said they want to be involved. And carers can register with the Devon Carers Link to find out what they are entitled to. Apparently, of the 73,000 carers only 5,000 are registered with Devon’s Carers’ Links to receive the support they are entitled to.
Clare Cotter, Devon County Council and Devon Primary Care Trust’s jointly appointed Planning and Strategic Commissioning Manager for carers support, told the PRSD: “”We estimate that there are 73,000 people caring for friends and families in Devon, including young people, but relatively few – just 5,000 – are taking advantage of the help available to them through Devon Carers Link.”
