After 27 members of Teignbridge council staff picked up 41 bags of litter on land and water (using kayaks no less – and in their own time) at Newton Abbot Town Quay, and 10 pupils from each of Inverteign, Hazledown and Our Lady of St Patrick Primary Schools joined Teignbridge staff to collect 15 bags of litter at Coombe Valley Nature Reserve, the council is now keen to hear from other schools and community groups which would like to get involved in the Big Tidy Up and ‘make a real difference to their local area’.
Cllr Gordon Hook, Teignbridge Spokesperson for Environmental Services, told the PRSD: “The Big Tidy Up is about taking real action against litter, and links very closely with our ongoing Tidy Teignbridge initiative.
“Around the district our cleaning crews work morning, noon and night to help keep Teignbridge tidy, and we’re hoping that local groups and schools will get involved in the Big Tidy Up to help make Teignbridge even cleaner for everyone.
“If you’d like to take part and help make Teignbridge the best it can be, please let us know and we’ll do everything we can to assist and support your community litter pick.”
Anyone wishing to take part can call Tracey Fey, Waste Education Officer, on 01626 215824.
