Katie Marie runs through some of the qualifications musicians get outside the classroom

For this week’s column I thought I’d share with you a conversation I had with a group of friends a few days ago…

We were all sat round the table having a good old chin wag when we got onto the subject of schooling and qualifications, one of my friends asked me what qualifications I had, and then looked rather shocked when I said none at all! lol

‘What?! You mean like, not even any GCSE’s???’ she kept asking.

In case you don’t know, I left school at 15 without getting any qualifications – so I could go straight into playing music and gigging. But it got me thinking, I reckon us musos are super dooper qualified in soooo many other ways! Here’s just a few examples:

* We can make the best tea and coffee in the whole world EVER (as this is our main source of food and drink)

* We know practically every make and model of car, and how to fix them when they go wrong, as we’ve had to make do with any crappy old banger that will get us on the road!

* We can also pack the back of a car better than anyone, and will be able to fit an obscene amount of stuff into the tiniest of cars through years of having to pack PAs and various musical equipment

* We are great for asking directions as we’ve trekked up and down the motorway so many times, and we also know where each service station and burger van is and their opening and closing hours

* In these current economic conditions it’s us musos who will survive the best, as over the years we have learnt to live on £1 a week!

* We are masters in the art of using Gaffa tape! And with Gaffa tape at our disposal we can fix a-n-y-t-h-i-n-g

* Give us any random items of food and we’ll be able to knock up a dish that’s fit for a king! As a lot of the time we’ve had to make do with what ever happens to be at the back of the cupboard lol
