Torbay's Tourism Forum is dead - long live Torbay's tourism... er.. forum... partnership... company...

We can’t keep track of the tourism bodies that cover Torbay, but the latest news is that ‘Torbay’s Tourism Forum is folding’ and a private/public partnership company is to be set up.

A Tourism Steering Group will oversee the development of the new company

Chairman of the (soon to be former) forum Lynne Hookings, who is on the steering group, said: “It is time to stop playing ‘pass the parcel’ with tourism and through true partnership encourage a rejuvenated industry for the Bay — meeting the expectations of today’s and tomorrow’s customers.”

The music has stopped, the new tourism parcel has yet to be unwrapped, and the person set to peel off the layers of wrapping and sticky tape is consultant Carolyn Custerson, who will be project manager of the new company.

Lynne Hooking also said: “Overall, I feel that the Tourism Forum has certainly played its part on the English Riviera Tourism ‘stage’ and I hope that we can all move forward to even more rewarding times.”

The industry meeting will take place on October 8 at the Grand Hotel, from 11am to 1pm. There is no mention of jelly, ice-cream or musical chairs.
