What have your representatives in Parliament been gabbering on about lately? We bring you news of Linda Gilroy and Richard Younger-Ross.
Richard has been talking military procurement, and whether history repeats itself, or we learn nothing by it, he said: “We must examine our defence needs, and try to find the equipment that fits them. That is why we need the strategic defence review. As politicians, we must be truthful about the cost, but we have not been.”
He says: “I thought that the war in Iraq was illegal, that it was immoral, and that we should not have gone there, and I voted against it.”
Richard visited Iraq in 2003, and he describes his visit in the debate.
He also asks: “Why the Chinooks are still sat, having their digital wiring ripped out for analogue to be put in, I do not understand.”
The last month has been dominated by the parliamentary debate about welfare reform, and it has been tempting to see this as – finally – a big and public debate about poverty.
