
Nick Griffin would be happy at Exeter University – assuming he could get in – according to Oscar-winning actor Emma Thompson.
She was speaking at university’s Streatham Campus, at an event entitled All Africans Now: Artistry and Activism, to promote racial equality.
Her adopted Rwanda-born son Tindyebwa Agaba studied politics at the university, and had a rough time and unpleasant experiences because he is black, she said.
“Exeter is very white and middle class and needs to be cracked open a bit,” said Emma. “He had some unpleasant experiences at Exeter, but also some good ones.”
The university itself has a zero tolerance approach to racism, strategies in place to promote this and to support any staff and students who experience racism

I moved from London about two years ago and I have to say that I’ve been pretty shocked by how much racist language I’ve heard in Exeter.
