“Have you got what it takes to help the council meet the challenges of the 2004 Traffic Management Act and provide an effective, but fair parking enforcement service?” Asks the latest Exeter City Council job ad for a senior civil enforcement officer, but what may sound a little dry is vastly important and has an every day impact on people’s lives.
Taken as red in any job application is that you are ‘enthusiastic’ and ‘hardworking’, but you will also need to have knowledge of health and safety issues, good IT skills and supervisory experience, along with commonsense, tact, good judgement and a full, clean driving licence [like, duh].
And ‘previous experience in parking, security or enforcement roles would be an advantage’.
A CRB check will be carried out, you know, ’cause of all those under 16 drivers out there.
