The festive season creates an extra three million tonnes of rubbish, according to Teignbridge Life, Teignbrige Council’s winter newsletter. So, they’ve come up five tips to help cut down waste, and the first one is buy your fruit and veg naked! (that’s without packaging, donchaknow).
2. Don’t be tempted by the ‘buy one get on free’ offers on fresh produce unless you are sure you can use it in time.
3. Make lists and plan you meals ahead.
4. Remember bigger is better: one large bottle generates less waste than several smaller ones.
5. Revive the Christmas tradition by using any leftover from you main meal to make bubble and squeak to accompany your left over cold meat
The mag also points out that WH Smith and Marks & Spencer ships will take Christmas cards for recycling from January 2 to 31. Or you could plonk ‘em in the district’s recycling bins (minus gift vouchers, of course). Make sure they’re in the right bin/box.
