Heathrow Terminal 3 – the new Eden? Eco credentials attacked as Eden designer is linked with Heathrow job

The eco credentials of Eden Project designer Sir Nicholas Grimshaw are under attack after it was revealed his practice is set to be named as lead designer of Heathrow’s third runway, according to the Guardian.

Environmentalists have said the firm’s green claims are laughable now it is linked to the £8bn project that will allow an extra 350 flights a day at Heathrow, which would turn the airport into the single biggest emitter of CO2 in the UK, according to Greenpeace.

The UK Green Building Council defended the Sir Nicholas’ firm. John Alker, spokesman for the council, told the Guardian: “The firm’s involvement in a controversial aviation project has to be seen in the context of the UK’s overall carbon budget.

“If this is going to bust those budgets then we need to direct our anger at the policymakers involved. Where does this stop? Should we be protesting against the people that pour the concrete for coal-fired power stations?”
