Teignbridge council has reduced its energy demand by 15.7 per cent – equating to £86,816, says Teignbridge councillor David Cox.
Back in 2007, Teignbridge was among the first councils to develop a Carbon Management Programme in association with the Carbon Trust, he says.
Added to that, it has invested in a new energy efficient refuse fleet, and uses tracker devices to maximise collection efficiencies.
David says on his site: “The most significant achievements to date have been in the Leisure Centres, which are our highest energy users with a reduction in excess of 174 tonnes of CO2 per annum.
“The work done by the council’s energy efficiency officer will save the council £570,000 worth of energy costs over the course of the next five years, which is equivalent to our total energy budget for one year.”
