What can individuals, communities and businesses do to eliminate or reduce worklessness? Asks the Dartington Debates

The second Dartington Debate will ask how to create ‘meaningful and sustainable for some of the most vulnerable and marginalised in our community – young people, people with disabilities and ex-offenders’, tonight (Tuesday, December 1) in Dartington’s Great Hall at 6pm.

The event has been organised jointly by The Dartington Hall Trust and Tomorrow’s People – not those people with big belt buckles from the ’70s children’s TV show, but a charity that breaks the cycle of unemployment so that people can take positive control of their lives and build a brighter future.

The panel will focus on the impact of worklessness in our rural and urban communities and discuss possible solutions, and you can join the debate with your own questions.

Celia Atherton will chair the panel of Tim Jones, Devon & Cornwall Business Council, Debbie Scott, Tomorrow’s People, Jo Williams, Prison Reform Trust, Alastair Wilson, School for Social Entrepreneurs.

The evening begins at 6pm with refreshments, and you can watch a short film before the debate, provided by David Wilson, of Robert Owen Communities, an organisation that supports people with learning disabilities.

The debate itself, will have the flavour of Question Time (which we reckon is cheese and onion), and kicks off at 6.30pm.

Tickets cost £5 each and can be obtained by emailing: bookings@dartingtonhall.com or by telephone booking. Call 01803 847070.

If you’re buying your tickets on the door, you can submit a question to the panel by handing it in to the organisers when you get there.
