Gary Streeter has jumped on the bandwagon - sorry, joined the campaign - against the Ivybridge Incinerator

It’s taken five weeks, but South West Devon MP Gary Streeter has joined the campaign against the Viridor incinerator (otherwise known as an Energy from Waste facility) at Ivybridge. “Local opinion is firmly against this project, and having seen the detailed plans in my office at Westminster last week, so am I,” he says on his site.

Of the three reasons why he’s against it, the health issue is last, beaten into third place by traffic and aesthetics.

In fact, Gary’s for an incinerator, it’s just the positioning of it that’s the problem. “I believe there are better sites available, notably the dockyard/naval base,” he says.

There’s a public exhibition at Smithaleigh Hotel on December 10 to view the plan. Gary has called a public meeting at the Watermark Ivybridge to discuss the proposals and agree on an action plan on Monday, December 14, at 7pm
