'Made in Wakefield - and proud of it!' New Statesman supports small business

Even better than the Real Thing?

Holidays are coming and we’ve found something to warm the cockles of every bien-pensant PRSD citizen this Christmas.

Nestled beside John Pilger’s World Citizen column in last week’s New Statesman is an advert for a product which is made with ‘care and passion by 545 people in Wakefield’.

The blurb says: ‘The plant where they work is not just the largest of its kind in Europe, it’s also one of the most environmentally-aware, sending zero waste to landfill.

‘And it’s just one of seven manufacturing sites across the country that together employ more than 4,500 people.’

This is clearly a step up from the usual adverts for BAE in the New Statesman.

But enough of our teasing – what company are they talking about?

Why, it’s Coca-Cola Enterprises – ‘Made in Wakefield – and proud of it’.

But of course. Next week, Mark Thomas opens a McDonald’s at the Eden Project…
