The shape of the coast around the Teign will be one of the main themes at this year’s Teign Estuary Partnership Annual Forum on Tuesday, January 26.
This public event, which is being held at the Passage House Hotel, Kingsteignton, features something for everyone – items on flood defence risks, scientific monitoring and marine planning, historical bathing machines and an enigmatic local bird.
As well as seeing a range of presentations and physical exhibits the audience will also be invited to sample fresh Teign Estuary mussels and local wine.
The forum is a free event offering an opportunity to find out about the activities of a wide range of organisations that work together to protect and enhance the coast and the Teign Estuary.
The partnership, which is led by Teignbridge District Council, co-ordinates the management of the estuary and adjacent coastal areas with a range of other organisations including Teignmouth Harbour Commission, the Environment Agency, Natural England, Associated British Ports and Devon County Council, as well as around 100 local organisations and individuals.
Cllr Mike Haines from Teignbridge District Council, who chairs the Partnership, told the PRSD: “The Partnership looks forward to the Annual Forum because it reaches a wide audience and also plays a key role in the management of the estuary, these are challenging times and by working together we can try and make the most of the coastline which is one of our key natural and economic resources. From regionally important research to local produce the event offers something for everyone with an interest in this special area.”
Tickets for this evening event on Tuesday, January 26 are available from the Estuaries and Coast team on 01626 215479 or karen.gist@teignbridge.gov.uk. The tickets also include refreshments.
