Middle class, fairly comfortable, fairly green, fairly ethical? This is your Call to Action!

Venue for the Call to Action event in Fair Trade fortnight

The Call to Action event at the Watermark, Ivybridge is a rallying cry for the middle class to get greener and more ethical. It will take place in the middle of Fair Trade fortnight on Saturday, February 27 between 2pm and 4pm 1.30pm and 4.30pm.

The afternoon will be a conference/exhibition, showcasing social and environmental groups in the Ivybridge and South Devon area, and is sponsored by the Co-op’s Fair Trade Fortnight community fund.

The event will be free, and people of all ages from the area are invited to attend. There will be a creche for the very young, along with speakers and displays from all generations – from primary schools to senior citizens.

Frankie Dolan, of EcoIvy, who organised the event, told the PRSD: “The objective of the event will be to encourage all those middle class fairly comfortable, fairly green and fairly ethical families in the Ivybridge area to actually get active and contribute a little of their time and shopping habits into making a difference in our world.”

The day will be a taster of many different social and environmental groups and activities in the area. Speakers will be encouraged to give a personal message about what motivated them to act.

Frankie said: “It is hoped that by the end of the event everyone attending will also feel motivated to do a little more, maybe having pledged their support to one of the organisations exhibiting on the day.

“It is also hoped that those people who attend and are already socially or environmentally active will come away from the event having met other people and other organisations who share the same values with whom they may be able to work with in the future.”

Only 200 people will be admitted. If anyone would like to receive free tickets for the event to guarantee their entry they should send their name, address and number of tickets required via the EcoIvy.org contact form.

If any socially or environmentally group or individual in the area would like to give a five to 10 minute talk on the day, as well as man a small display table, they should also get in touch with Frankie via the EcoIvy website.
