People in receipt of qualifying benefits can save 30 per cent off the cost of used furniture and appliances at Refurnish Devon stores next month, in a move supported by Teignbridge Council.
Refurnish Devon (formerly Devon Furniture Forum) is a registered charity and social enterprise with a mission to help alleviate poverty and reduce landfill by collecting unwanted reusable furniture, appliances and other household goods. It fully tests and repairs anything in need of it, and goes on to supply the goods at affordable prices to people on lower incomes.
While its stores are open to everyone, those receiving qualifying housing and council tax benefits can usually claim 20 per cent off the in-store price. This is set to rise to 30 per cent off for the month of March only, giving local people a time-limited offer to furnish their homes for less. The offer will apply at all Refurnish Devon stores in Newton Abbot, Paignton, Totnes, Bittaford (near Ivybridge) and Tavistock.
Proof of benefit entitlement in required in order to claim the discount, and people who aren’t yet in receipt of benefits can check their entitlement for free with their local council. In Teignbridge it can be completed online on the Teignbridge council site or by calling 01626 215000.
