Not only did the Totnes Conservatives Febreze® [potential product placement opportunity courtesy of 'culture' secretary Ben Bradshaw] the odour of Anthony Steen off their robes with Britain’s first ‘primary’ for its next Prospective Parliamentary Candidate, but it is now saying that MP wannabe Dr Sarah Wollaston is running Obam-style election meetings… and she’s expressing concerns at cuts in benefits! Could this herald in a new hue of blue?
Dr Sarah apparently followed the example of US President Obama by attending a house meeting on Monday, February 22 to get together with voters in Brixham. [Of course, we'd prefer if it was a house party and she was discussing policy on the stairs over an 80s hit compilation.]
Dr Sarah was in the Brixham home of Kate Jackson, and they talked about winter fuel payments, attendance allowance and inheritance tax. It was also an opportunity to discuss issues for carers and the importance of community hospitals. And the regeneration of Brixham and concerns about the loss of small businesses were also raised.
The government’s proposals for a National Care Service came also came up, and Dr Sarah (she’s a GP) expressed great concerns at the cuts in disability benefits that would have to be made to pay for it.
Pop along to Dr Sarah’s site to find out more, it’s even got maps!
