It’s been loads of behind the scenes type stuff for me this time around – got loads of good gigs coming up which I’m really looking forward to.
I also managed to meet up with my wonderful Monkey Moo Records family and sit down to have a good old chin wag about ways forward. After an hour of discussing the results of who killed Archie on Eastenders we thought we’d best start talking about more grown up music biz type stuff!
The great news is that we have an action plan together, which will be starting next week, so I’m feeling über positive and looking forward to getting stuck in! One of the things we talked about was re-recording a few of my older tunes as I’ve had someone approach me who is interested in using them for TV and film type stuff. I’ve always been very protective of letting my own songs be used for this kind of thing, but in this case it is a completly no-strings-attached non-exclusive deal, so really and truly I’ve not got much to loose. I’m planning on going back to my studio and hopefully re-recording a few old songs from back in the day, as let’s face it there’s quite a few more gadgets and gizmos in there than when I originally recorded the tracks in question on my Zoom MRS4 yonks ago!
So I’ll letcha know when they’re all done and you can take a listen and see what ya think.
On the gig front there’s been loads of practices this week and I’ve been making lots of trips here, there and everywhere. Miquid Licks have their first *ever* gig next Wednesday, which I’m looking forward to. If you can’t make it then fear not, as I’ll be armed with my camara (so look out for next week’s article where they’ll be loads of random pics of a musical nature!). For a first place to gig it’s a pretty cushty place….a nice (and big!) looking venue called The Front Rooms in Cheltenham (check it out), should be good. Our second gig is one much more local for me, it’s at Mama Stone’s in Exeter on the Thursday, March 9 – which will be sooo much fun as I’ve invited lots of peeps I’ve not seen in a while, hopefully they’ll enjoy the music too!
… and talking of Mama Stone’s, I’ll be playing the first Dan Crisp gig of 2010 there next Sunday, March 7. It’s gunna be so nice getting back into playing Dan’s music live again, it’s been a while!
Heading on back to the Katie Marie camp… I’ll also be doing my first radio performance of this year next Monday (March 1) as I’m making an appearance on The Totnes Monster Show [a much-appreciated advertiser on the PRSD], if there’s anything you want playing give us a shout!
I’m planning on playing a couple of cover songs, one of which I’ve never played live before so it could be interesting lol. It’s a track called Count to Ten by Tina Dico and there’s a seriously superb version of it on Youtube which you *have* to check out if you haven’t already!
The other track is the wonderful Firedoor by Ani Difranco, and I’ve played it many, many times using my loop pedal, but I’ve sat down and re-worked it so it’s got a bit more rhythmy-grooviness to it, we’ll see how it goes! If you fancy tuning in I’ll be on from 11am (UK time) and if you’re a Totnes person you can tune in on 102.5FM or if you’re out of area you can head on over to the Soundart Radio website where you can listen in!
Well I guess I’d better brave this ‘orrible rain and head on over to my studio, remember – lots of sun dancing this week please peeps!
