What a real bummer of a week it’s been, the only saving grace for me is that our combined sun-dancing efforts seemed to have paid off as we had a couple of days of sunshine! Horrah!
After promising you lots of pics and musical stories, the first gig with Miquid Licks that was due to take place in Cheltenham last night was sadly canceled on Sunday (Noooooo!!!) which is a real shame. This does now mean our first gig will be at Mama Stone’s next Tuesday, which in a way will be better as it’s home territory for me and there’ll be lots of friendly faces I know very well.
So after getting that bad news, I then get a phone call from Mr Dan (Crisp) the very next day to say our first gig of 2010 had been canceled (due to be this Sunday!!). Two gigs cancelled in two days, gutted
But through all this crappy canceling stuff I did have one very cool thing to look forward to, which was me appearing on the Totnes Monster Show (although I was half expecting that to be canceled too – they say things happen in threes after all!). But luckily for me it all went really well and as always we had oodles of fun.
This was the first Totnes Monster show to kick-start the new year and the guys have added a really kewl new feature to the show called ‘Discstruction’ in which the guests get to choose a song they would like to banish off the face of the earth for all eternity. Now I’m really not the kind of person to say anything horrible about anyone’s music, but one song sprang to mind instantly… which was the ear-melting terror that is Lady in Red by Chris De Burgh. It’s one of those tunes that really does firmly plant itself into your brain, and not in a good way! Plus the first ever function band I joined used to play it and although I’ll admit it does have a very nice bass line, it is rather painful to hear when you’ve played it night after night after night (after night!). So how did I destroy this song? Check out this sound clip from the show to find out. (And yes, it really did happen!! lol).
Other than destroying horrible tunes with DIY equipment, I was also armed with my lovely acoustic guitar and did play a few tunes too. I managed to just about finish learning Count to Ten by Tina Dico, which if you remember last week I’d only just started learning! It’s such a beautiful song and it’s even more beautiful to play, so that’s defo going to be put in my set list. Along with Count to Ten I played a couple of my own tunes, one of which Chris and Shannon have very kindly uploaded to Youtube for all to see:
So I’m hoping I’ll be a bit luckier with gigs over the next few weeks, got some really good ones lined up! The next one of course will be Miquid Lick’s first trip outside the practice room, would be great if you could make it!
