Community art and care home project needs your vote

Bishopsteigton Care Home

A  new project at Moors Park House, Bishopsteignton, called Bridging The Gap has been come about to enable everyone who lives at Moors Park House to take their rightful place in society and to promote the benefits of living in a care home, but it needs your help to get off the ground.

To win the funding, the project – which involves creating a willow sculpture and photography to build a meaningful work for the whole community to enjoy – needs your vote.

Debi Tilcock, home manager at Moors Park, told the PRSD: “Our aim is to ‘bridge the gap’ between care home and community in creative and exciting ways that capture the imagination and interest.

“Part of this process involved meeting members of the Bishopsteignton Outdoor Art Group – their passion and enthusiasm to be involved with us has been inspirational!

“With their help I have put together a proposal to obtain funding for a Community Art Project from the Department of Health (Bright Ideas Grant) for a completely unique and innovative idea to create a willow sculpture that includes photographs of something meaningful to each resident and weave these into the structure to create a long-lasting and memorable art form that can be appreciated by other artists, as well as the wider community.

“The residents will be assisted in taking their own photographs and will be involved in the creation of the structure along with opportunities for story-telling, reminiscence and learning new skills.

“We will be organising talks about willow weaving and photography for those who want to gain new knowledge and a series of workshops to enable residents to take their own photos on a digital camera. The photographs will be printed on vinyl to make them weather proof and long lasting.”

Full details can be found on the Bright Ideas site, and this is where you can vote.

“Voting can only take place online which is where I need the support of the local community” said Debi.

“We need people to vote our project as ‘excellent’ by clicking on the fifth star. Voting closes on Thursday, March 18. We are up against some large care providers who have a ready made network of supporters to vote. We have remained among  the higher star rating over the last four weeks, but are now being overtaken as our personal network of supporters have all voted.

“There is an open invitation to everyone who votes to come to our opening ceremony later in the year! Tell everyone you know to vote too…”
