Community notice board and sculpture in Exeter's Belmont Park to bring community closer

Exeter City Council

People living in Newtown, Exeter, will be able to post details of what’s going on in their area on a new community noticeboard that’ll be positioned in Exeter’s Belmont park.

The noticeboard and sculpture have been funded by the Exeter City Council’s My Neighbourhood scheme.

The scheme brings together the council, city councillors, residents and the Neighbourhood Policing teams – as part of the Partners and Communities Together (PACT) work – to make a difference in local neighbourhoods. The areas where the scheme operates are Newtown, Countess Wear, Cowick, Exwick, Pinhoe, St Thomas, Summerway, Whipton, and Wonford.

The Lord Mayor of Exeter, Cllr John Winterbottom, will be unveiling the new community notice board in Belmont Park at 10am on Saturday, March 13.

The wrought-iron board and sculpture was designed by a Exeter artist Emily Matthews after local people decided that this would be a good way to spend a community grant from Exeter City Council aimed at improving the area.

As part of the unveiling of the noticeboard, Newtown Community Association will be hosting a celebration event in the park with music from Detor and Friends at the Cafe in the Hut from 10am to 11.30am. All proceeds will go to the Haiti Eathquake Appeal.

The scheme is continuing to support community grants for project ideas across Exeter. Grants of up to £500 are available to support community ideas. Find out more about the scheme on the Exeter City Council website.
