To err is human… unless you are the Western Morning News

Western Morning News

A smug and mean-spirited article in the Western Morning News has raised the hackles of the PRSD’s Tibby the Cat. Take it away Tibby – but don’t get catty!

What can we say about the WMN’s article bemoaning errors in a press release they had received that morning?

If you were quick enough to see the original version then you would have been treated to some good old-fashioned bile, a hefty helping of smugness and a bucketful of moral indignation. What terrible errors had been made, you ask?

The WMN decided to come down heavy on someone with an overactive spellcheck who also managed to get their, oh-so-well-known local politicos in a muddle. They mistook an MP for an MEP and a PPC for an MP, OK? Hang ‘em!

Someone soon realised that their article looked a bit disproportionate and toned it down, but still saw fit to keep this in ‘We should at least be grateful they didn’t think Geoffrey Cox’s first name was Huge as well.’

So errors are beyond the pale, but let’s not miss the opportunity to go all Carry On with a knob joke.

Facts are important but so too is a bit of proportion. All you press officers out there, we at the PRSD are pleased to receive your press releases – we don’t guarantee to be ‘on-message’, but we will try to be a bit more realistic and proportionate about errors than our friends at the WMN.
