Not Bad For a Girl: Catch Katie Marie at The Barrel House, Totnes!

Singer songerwriter Katie Marie

Life is slowly getting back to normal after being away in Germany, although there are lots and lots of people I miss very much. This time around I only have to wait a few months before I’m in Rostock again in July – woohoo!

My time in Germany as always was so much fun and like I say to so many people, it really does recharge my batteries and makes me realise how lucky I am to be doing what I do. Big, big thanks if you managed to make any of the gigs – it was really great to see you and I hope you had as much fun as I did! I also have to say a massive, massive thank you to Sandra, Michi, Vio, Spikey, Marco, Robert and Andrea who *always* go seriously out of their way to make me feel at home, I appreciate it so much and I miss you all loads!

Back here in the UK I’ve had a really wonderful week, jam packed with musical type stuff and sunshine which always makes me feel good :) The beginning of the year is always a weeny bit slow so it’s a great feeling to see things moving again, particularly with gigs.

The end of last week I was out and about flyering and postering and generally trying to advertise my gig at The Barrel House in Totnes as best I can (which is THIS SUNDAY 25th!!). We always have oodles of fun there so if you’re free pop along as it would be great to see ya!

Talking of gigs, Karon (my new Cajon) had her first trip out last Friday as I had a gig with Nicky Swann at The Dartmouth Inn in Newton Abbot. Karon sounded absolutely superb and made lots and lots of friends! There were loads of peeps in the pub who wanted to meet her as they’d never seen a Karon before and couldn’t believe such a great sound could come from a little wooden box! ;)

Then Saturday was a Miquid Licks gig at Monty’s in Cheltenham. This was my first gig playing bass since the last Miquid Licks gig in Taunton (which if you remember was a few days before I went away to Germany!). So I was wondering how on earth my bass playing would fair or even if I’d remember how to play the bloomin thing! Thankfully it all went swimmingly well and Monty’s have offered us another two gigs there – job done!

My plan for Sunday was to pre-record Acoustic PM as I’d been asked to play a few tunes on Shep and Jo’s show on BBC Radio Devon, which just so happened to be on Wednesday at pretty much the same time that I do my show on Soundart Radio (sod’s law lol). I thought as the weather was so utterly gorgeous (and let’s face it, that doesn’t happen here very often!!) I thought it would be really good fun to record my show outside in the sunshine and play some acoustical type music for all to hear. I called up my friend Giles who agreed that sitting outside in the sunshine drinking tea and playing music all afternoon sounded like a darn good idea :)

We had loads of fun and even managed to create a bit of an audience in the process (made up of two people, one dog, three sheep and a ga-zillion ducks, horrah!).

So after a really great weekend of gigging I had my slot on BBC Radio Devon to look forward to. I have to say a massive thanks to all on Myspace and Facebook who helped me choose which songs to play :) The show went really well and I’ve been asked if I want to play on the BBC Radio Devon Introducing stage at this year’s Devon County Show which is pretty exciting stuff! Will letcha know more info when I have it…

This weekend will be another fun one for me, Saturday I’ll be in Poole with Miquid Licks gigging at Mr Kyps where we’ll be supporting RU40 (which as the name might suggest are a UB40 tribute band!). Then as mentioned earlier, Sunday will be little old me gigging at The Barrel House!

So hope you’re making the very most of this wonderful weather and I’ll catch ya next week!
