Commenting on the political alliance which will form the next Government, Sarah Wollaston, GP turned newly elected Conservative MP for Totnes, told the PRSD: “Throughout the election campaign in my many doorstep meetings with constituents, it was made clear to me that they wanted to see politicians working together for the benefit of the country.
“This has now been achieved through the creation of a proper and meaningful coalition of the Conservative and Liberal Democratic parties, who will form our new Government.”
Sarah’s got her finger on the beating pulse of demotratic experiment, having been chosen as candidate for the Totnes constituency to replace the disgraced Antony Steen, with the country’s first ‘primary’ style election.
But during the general election campaign we reported that she was underfire for not facing up to questions about the Conservative Party’s European Parliament alliance, which includes ‘nutters, homophobes and anti-semites’ (to quote Lib Dem leader, and deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg). In a kind of political STD, the Lib Dems now have questions to ask and answer about the Tory’s bed partner’s too.
Back to domestic politics, Sarah said: “I welcome this political alliance because it is in the best interest of the Totnes constituency and the country. We need a strong, united and stable government to tackle the problems ahead.”
