South Devon council to look at charging points for electric cars

Teignbridge Council is actively looking at charging points for the car parks it owns, according to Teignmouth Councillor David Cox.

David says on his site: “One of the key issues many people are worried about before purchasing an electric car is where they can charge it. Public electric car charging stations are on the rise and I’m pleased Teignbridge council is actively looking at charging points for the car parks it owns.”

Most electric cars are not suitable for driving long distance or Devon hilly topography. ‘However, the technology behind electric cars is constantly improving,” he says.

  • The next stage must be to get BT to convert its rural telephone-boxes for use as charging points. http://cllrdavidcox.blogspot.com/2010/01/new-use-for-old-boxes.html

Down town Tokyo uses Electric taxis with exchangeable battery packs for convenient fast refueling – This seems a practical solution to the problem, as well as the acclimatization to shorter trips by car at all, and looking to trains, trams subways and electric bullet trains to take on the longer distances. We will all go electric as the Americans scoop up the last of the Cheap oil in the world with their fiat dollar schemes. Europe is a candidate for Nuclear power – just look at France for example. but exchangeable batteries for electric cars exists and works well for Tokyo’s downtown taxis today – something to consider as life slows down due to cheap energy shortages.
