Responding to the Emergency Budget, Nigel Costley, Regional Secretary for the South West TUC, told the PRSD: “This Budget is economically dangerous and socially divisive. Middle and low income earners across the South West will not feel that the pain is being shared fairly.
“We are not in this together.
“Public servants will feel especially picked on with the attack on their pay, pensions, jobs and the services they perform.
“But we will all suffer if the economy takes another nosedive with such a sudden withdrawal of the stimulus to the economy because around a third of people working in the South West are employed in the public sector, with many more in private firms supporting government-funded projects and contracts.”
