The eat local challenge. Can you Eat for Devon?

Devon Countryside

Teign Estuary Transition are working out if it’s possible to eat only food produced or sourced within Devon.

The Teign Estuary Transition site says: “Quite possibly it may just demonstrate how difficult and expensive this might currently be.

“But the Transition movement is about transitioning to a local economy to cope with the challenges posed by Peak Oil, so we thought it would be fun to try this out now!”

The challenge starts on Saturday, August 21 to coincide with the Teignmouth Local Produce Market, and the Teign transitioners are hoping to provide advice and tips along with way.

Already signed up is PRSD contributor Grazing Kate, who’s up for the challenge, although has a few concerns over the wording.

She says: “surely nearly everything we buy is ‘sourced’ in Devon – even if that means bananas from the West Indies from Tesco? Should that be amended? Or do you have a different definition of ‘sourced’?”

• Can you take the Eat for Devon challenge? And what’s your definition of ‘sourced’? Comments below, please.
