Join the Greens for less green! Free membership offer for students and under 30s

The Green Party is offering free membership for all people under the age of 30 or in full-time education. The offer is available until Friday, December 31. No subscription will need to be paid for the coming year, thereby foregoing the normal rate of £5 for joining students.

In the aftermath of the tuition fees vote, the Green Party are the only parliamentary party which believes in a policy of universal free education.

Green Party leader, Caroline Lucas, said: “I want students and young people to know there is a political party that still cares about their future, and that will keep fighting for a fairer future and will not give up on doing the right thing.”

David Wildman, acting membership secretary of Plymouth Green Party, told the PRSD: “There is much disillusionment and deceit. Many young people recently voted for the ‘Fib Dems’ and have been rewarded by a stab in the back.

“I can understand the disbelief of so many students, including those who had their sights on a degree in the near future. If fees had soared to nine thousand a year I would have had second thoughts. The debt is simply too high.”

David, a recent graduate, having studied at Plymouth Marjons between 2006-2009, continued on the subject of the fees rise, said: “The Tories are cutting, the Lib Dems are lying, and Labour are complete hypocrites and incapable of providing answers. The Greens are fighting for what is right. Everyone in this party has the chance to get involved, to form policy, to shape this party’s direction. Together, we can fight the cuts and fight for our education.”

Alternatively, people in full time education or young people under the age of 27 can join the Labour Party for only £1. Membership is up across Plymouth and Devon and with the local elections only six months away now is a good time to get involved and help get the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats out of power locally and nationally.
