Go Carbon neutral for the new year!

The green community social network Elpis got in touch to tempt people into going carbon neutral for the new year, especially with their very own carbon offset scheme – the carbon footprint of an average UK resident is 9.38 tonnes – and a year’s footprint will cost £110.87 at current prices.

But who are these Elpis people, and from whence do they come with their ‘spirit of hope’? For one thing, elpis is Greek for ‘spirit of hope’.

Elpis.com is a social network and collaboration site that aims to engender social change, the ideas being that small ideas can make a big difference, sustainable economic growth can go hand in hand with preserving the environment and balance of nature and dealing with complex social, environmental and development issues requires individual and collective effort of the people themselves.

And part of that is its carbon offsets from ‘reliable, accredited providers at cost-price’.

Carbon Offsets eliminate carbon emissions elsewhere to compensate for your own footprint in a pragmatic, cost-effective and transparent manner.

Elpis Offsets, they say, are sourced from the best providers, with each project being carefully evaluated using a rigorous rating model to ensure that they are effective. Details of all projects are listed on Elis site.

And Elpis says its pricing for offsets is the same as the daily closing price on the European Climate Exchange (currently £11.82 per tonne), giving a simple, verified price.
