The Transition Newton Abbot team will be at the Newton Abbot community garden to plant fruit trees on Saturday, January 29, from 10am. Come along, they say, to plant a fruit tree, or to stand and watch.
Gardening as a spectator sport might seem a little counter-intuitive, but popping along to Newton Abbot’s community garden is still taking part and showing your support, however dirty – or not – you get your hands.
You are advised to wrap up warm, wear boots, and take lunch and a hot drink – also, you could take a camera then you can be proactive as you stand and watch all the hard work – that’s if you don’t feel the urge to get stuck in.
The Newton Abbot Community Garden has been taking shape since 2009 – the lease was signed by Transition Newton Abbot from Newton Abbot Town Council in July of that year. And since then the overgrown wasteland has been transformed with the help of Newton Abbot Transitioners, volunteers and others who were just passing through.
If you can’t make it for the fruit tree planting, there is someone at the garden every Saturday from 10am-noon (and during the summer on Tuesday evenings, so either to pop in and look around or help out). All welcome – under 14s must be accompanied by an adult.
