There’s free compost for everyone this weekend (February 26-27) as Exeter City Council holds its last compost giveaway.
Taking place at the council’s composting site in Water Lane, residents will be able to help themselves to as much compost as they can take away in their cars and trailers.
All people need to do is come armed with bags and a shovel.
The weekend is split into two. Saturday, from 9am to 4pm is open to cars, with no limit on the number of bags, and Sunday, from 9am to 12.30pm its the turn of vehicles with trailers. A mechanical loader will be available to assist.
The free material is a soil conditioner, produced from the city council parks waste and is good for improving the drainage of the soil.
This is the last event as new legislation is forcing the closure of Exeter’s Water Lane compost site. In future the council will be shredding parks waste on-site and using it as a mulch.
The Water Lane Composting Site is located just past J L Thomas & Co in Water Lane, Exeter, EX2 8DX. Continue to the end of the lane past J L Thomas & Company.
While stocks last there is no limit on the amount of compost residents can have. The site is a working site and ground is uneven Depending on the weather, the site could be very muddy. Any children accompanying adults must stay in the vehicle at all times.
