Torbay Labour’s Patrick Canavan elected to party’s regional management board

Members of Torbay Labour Party attended the Labour Party’s Regional Conference held in Plymouth to see Patrick Canavan, Labour’s mayoral candidate, was elected to the party’s regional management board.

Patrick told the PRSD: “I am delighted to have the opportunity to represent Torbay and Devon on our regional board. It will give Torbay a voice in the region and it was encouraging to hear from Harriet Harman about the need for a strong Labour Party in the South West.”

The conference was addressed by deputy leader, Harriet Harman MP, who said: “People in the South West need Labour councillors more than ever to be their voice in tough times.

“The South West needs an army of Labour councillors more than ever to stand up for those threatened the most by this Tory led Coalition government.

“The Lib Dems are no longer the opposition to the Tories – they are the supporters of the Tories.”

She added: “No-one should be in any doubt that it is Labour – and only Labour – that stands up for the South West against the threats posed by the Tories and the Lib Dems.”
