Would you pay £585 for your favicon – the tiny image in the address bar of your browser? That’s what the government paid for the 32×32 pixel image in the Information Commissioner’s Office website. Of course there are reasons and excuses for the costs being so high, with the inefficiency of the client – the government – being penalised by the design firm for taking up its billable hours. But why does something that should take minutes cost so much?
