Inspired by the national referendum on election reform, the Dartington Hall Trust presents an evening which will look to answer some of the questions around the Alternative Vote referendum. Taking place on Friday, April 8, the event promises robust debate and information.
A panel of four will set the context and explore the options. Ben Bradshaw Exeter’s MP and leader of Labour’s Vote Yes group will take on Cambourne & Redruth MP George Eustice, the South West leader of the Vote No group.
Pam Giddy, director of the Power2010 campaign for democratic reform, will explain the variety of voting methods used around the world, and Tony Whitty, Totnes town mayor, will bring a local perspective to the issues.
Celia Atherton director of social justice at Dartington will chair the debate.
Celia told the PRSD: “Taking place in Dartington’s Great Hall and open to all, this second Great Debate of 2011 will help open up the key questions and provide a chance to push for the information and system you need.
“Having a vote is really important – using it in an informed way is even more important. This debate will enable us all to understand our choices better, so that we can make our referendum vote really count.”
The Great Debate kicks off with a complimentary drink and finger buffet at 6.30pm. The debate will start at 7pm. Tickets cost £10 (concessions £5) To book tickets call 01803 847146.
