Exeter Greens to join anti-cuts rally

Green Party members from Exeter will be joining hundreds of thousands of others from across the country at Hyde Park in London this Saturday (March 26) to protest against the cutbacks by the coalition government.

The London rally will call for an alternative to coalition government plans for deeply damaging cuts to public spending.

At the last election the Green Party drew up a costed plan to tackle the deficit without destroying public services and jobs. Instead of cutting public services the Green Party would tackle the deficit through such measures as clamping down on the billions lost through tax evasion and tax avoidance; introducing a ‘Robin Hood Tax’ on financial transactions, cancelling unnecessary road building, scrapping the Trident nuclear weapons programme and bringing troops home from Afghanistan.

Devon Green Party members will also be joining a Day of Action against the cuts in Exeter High Street, between 10am and 2pm. This event is being organised for those who are unable to go to London.

Exeter Green Party member Lizzie Woodman, who will be attending the London rally told the PRSD: “Labour started the patchwork privatisation of the NHS, introduced the school academies programme and tuition fees, and the coalition government is going even further.

“The tragedy is that a million people will be thrown out of work, just at a time when we need a million more jobs to kick start an energy revolution to provide clean, affordable energy supplies for our future and insulate homes to reduce heating costs and make them warmer and healthier places to live.”

Great news of a Devonian Green presence!

We can't let Labour get away with their hypocrisy and lies of being a credible alternative to the cuts. If the situation wasn't so serious, it would be laughable to hear Ed Balls talking about the financial situation.

Less of the lies; and more of the truth!
