South Somerset Greens are concerned about the number of Clone Towns there are, which they reckon undermine the local economy. Here are their four easy ways to promote an independent local economy.
- Use your independent cinema, local retailers and markets. Independent high street business can only survive if local people buy from them – seek out independents and locally sourced products.
- Join or help to create a local Transition Town group, or civic society
- Use FreeCycle to redistribute your unwanted goods and belongings
- Grow more of your own food – ask your local council to provide you with an allotment
These are just four tips, if you’ve got any more – or examples where they’ve worked (or haven’t) leave a comment below please, or drop us a line on in...@peoplesrepublicofsouthdevon.co.uk
