A Little Patch of Ground is a new project at Dartington that combines food growing and performance. Run by the arts group Encounters, this intergenerational project hopes to bring together a group of people of all ages who live and work in or around the South Hams area, and is looking for people to get involved.
The aim of the project, which has already been run in Liverpool and Doncaster, is looking for participants to explore, unearth, and tell stories of the relationship people have with where they live and the wider natural world around them.
Samples of soil, plant life and food as well as personal stories, images, ideas and experiences will be drawn together and cross-fertilised through photography and film, writing and drama, collecting, cooking and planting during the project.
Each week a group of 20-25 participants of all ages will meet for three hours on the Dartington estate to work in the garden, prepare food and eat together and explore issues relating to food and the environment through a range of different creative activities.
A Little Patch of Ground will culminate in the fruition of a vegetable garden, a multi-media performance and a new intergenerational community group.
The project will take place on Thursday evenings 5.30-8.30pm from the beginning of May, culminating in September 2011 with an exhibition as well as public performances.
Encounters are looking to recruit people aged between 8-80 from all walks of life to work together on this exciting and innovative project – you could come on your own, with your family or with a friend.
If you are interested in meeting other people from across the area, getting your hands in the soil and taking part in some high quality arts activities then contact Ruth Ben-Tovim on pro...@encounters-arts.org.uk for more information.
