Who’da thought anyone would be voting for the Lib Dems at the moment? But news of the demise of the party which is putting the ‘us’ into u-turn (that’s Coalition government for you) is perhaps a little overstated as Lib Dem Mark Pounteny gains the Torbay council seat of Cockington with Chelston.
Mark managed to win over more than 1,000 burghers to win the seat from the Tories in a 14.35% swing away from them and to the Lib Dems.
Mark brings the number of Lib Dems on Torbay council to 10. There are 22 Tories, one independent, two on the independent group, one Labour and one UKIP councillor.
Here are the figures: LD 1048, Con 614, Lab 357, Ind 129, Ind 61, Grn 55.
