Brixham anti-poverty campaigner holds Final Fling in Brixham

Brixham anti-poverty campaigner Helen Barret will mark her retirement as a Traidcraft local coordinator with a Final Fling at the Christian Community Centre, Fore Street, Brixham to mark her retirement as a Traidcraft local coordinator on Saturday, October 1 between 10am and noon, and 2pm and 4pm.

“Helen has campaigned for years for developing countries. Alongside this campaigning Helen has increased the awareness of Fairtrade and provided local people with a wide choice of Fairtrade products by running a stall twice a month in the Christian Community Centre,” said Dr Richard Montgomery.

“We are very grateful to Helen who has run a Fairtrade stall for 25 years, with an accumulated turnover of hundreds of thousands of pounds and who is doing this for the final time on Saturday, October 1.”

People are invited to the Final Fling to buy a wide range of Traidcraft products including Christmas cards, gifts, jewellery, clothing and linen as well as the more usual food and drinks. There will be many special offers such as two for the price of one and reduced prices. Members of Brixham For Global Action will help Helen.

Helen said: “Fairtrade guarantees a fair price for the producers and benefits their local community by providing funding for projects such as clean water, healthcare and schooling.

“The residents of Brixham, over many years have bought Fairtrade products from me which ensure a better future for producers and demonstrate an alternative way of doing trade, one which promotes justice for the world’s poor.”
