History of struggle for equality and human rights celebrated

UK Disability History Month is taking place from November 22 to December 22.

This is the second UK Disability History Month, and according to the event’s site, it is platform to focus on the history of our struggle for equality and human rights.

The theme for this year will be Celebrating Our Struggle for Equality, to reflect on the history as disabled people and their struggle for their rights.

“This theme is also relevant to more current events such as; ‘the March of the hardest hit’ in May 2011, and the recent attacks on the rights, dignity and standards of living of disabled people in the UK,” says the website.

The month also cover HIV/AIDS Day (December 1); International Day of People with Disabilities (December 3) and International Human Rights Day (December 8). It also follows on directly from Anti-Bullying Week (November 15-19).
