It’s been yet another crazy week, filled with lots and lots (and lots) of musical type practising.
In between gigging I’ve been trying to get tunes ready for my 90s Night, which will be an online gig (streamed via www.stageit.com/funkeegirl on July 13) where I’ll be attempting to perform various classic cheesy tunes from the 1990s. It could all work… or, I could end up making a complete eejot out of myself. Either way, I’ll have lots of fun trying.
My initial idea was to just use acoustic guitar and vocal, but it has expanded a little bit… well, ok maybe a bit more than a little bit lol
I now have a little Katie corner that I’ll be using. It features Tara (my acoustic) (hooked up to my LR Baggs Venue DI and a Boss Octave Pedal for bassy bits), which along with my vocal mic are going through a little Alesis mixing desk and then into my Akai E2 Headrush loop pedal. I’ve also got Kartha (my lovely Schlagwerk CP404 cajon) and Logarhythm stomp box. Finally I’ve hooked up my new Roland Octapad drum controller to my Yamaha QY70 and it’s also running through my little mixer and into the loop pedal… so at any time I can loop vocals, guitar and Octapad, horrah!
I’ve got seven tunes under my belt so far and oodles more to get through, lol.
Today I worked out an arrangement for Michael Jackson’s They Don’t Care About Us, which was so much fun and I really hope I can pull it off.
Basically, I play a pattern on the Octapad (that has a bass and funky snare sound) with my right hand, Kartha Cajon with my left, my stomp box with my right foot and then sing (which is the tricky bit at the moment lol).
If you fancy giving it a try here’s how it looks:
Gig wise, the Tea Total Tour only has three dates left (boo hoo!) and this Saturday will be a good one. I’ll be playing at one of my fav venues, Salisbury Arts Centre which has gorgeous acoustics. I’ll be playing from noon, so pop along if you’re about. Would be great to see you as always.
