Maybe it’s a weather thing, but the Devon Guild of Craftsmen has taken Paul Klee’s drawing quote of ‘taking a line for a walk’ and subverted it for their Big Draw offering this year and are asking people to take lines for a swim.
The inspiration comes from the gallery’s current exhibition Rivers and Streams – large photographic images of the River Exe by Jem Southam.
The two days of free drop-in events during the half-term for the Big Draw goes under the titles of Waterlines, and kids, grown ups and families can work creatively with qualified artists and use a range of materials to explore the power of the line.
With the babbling brook outside the gallery, and by being surrounded by Jem’s striking images of water, it’s the perfect setting for some watery – and spooky – creations.
Waterlines is at The Devon Guild of Craftsmen on Tuesday, October 30 and Wednesday, October 31 from 11am to 4pm. It is a free, drop-in event and suitable for all ages. No booking required. Under 12s should be accompanied.
