The joint venture company set up By May Gurney and Torbay Council known as Tor2 which took over contracts for street cleansing, parks and refuse collection in Torbay is in line next year for some £500,000 cuts.

They have come up with a special cut for Christmas of their own. The £20 shopping voucher for Morrisons that has been given in previous years as an Xmas Bonus has been replaced with what has been nicknamed ‘The Scrooge Voucher’ for £2 for a bacon roll and soft drink that can only be used at a mobile catering van it has been reported to GMB.

Members contacted the local branch secretary to vent anger. One said: “It’s a slap in the face to us all’”

Another remarked: “What a miserable gift from management in the festive season.” Others were outraged at the loss of a voucher that could help with food at Xmas time when they are already on a low income.

“In an era of austerity, it is amazing Tor2 had the courage to implement such a miserable gesture to its staff at Christmas and GMB would  ask them to think again,” said Paul Raybould GMB Torbay Branch Secretary.
