Tories fall to third in Exmouth Town Council by-election

Liberal Democrat Ian Brownbill has become the newest councillor on Exmouth Town Council, after winning a by-election in the Town ward.

Ian won on Thursday, March 14 with 238 votes, ahead of the Labour candidate 176, and Conservative candidate 131 who limped in third place. The Independent candidate 111 came fourth.

The political make-up of the council is unchanged, as he takes the seat vacated by Liberal Democrat Will McConnell.

Despite the third-place finish in this poll, the Conservatives still control the town council, with 13 councillors.

There are 11 Lib Dems, and one independent. 658 ballot papers were issued, with two voided, making a turnout of 14.1 per cent.
