What can be more enjoyable than watching someone spend £5,000 in a day? Austerity be damned, this is fun we’re talking about, and motoring fun at that! In a zeitgeist-busting move, Volvo have picked people to blow £5 grand in their Volvo Commuter Hijack campaign.
What happens is Yes Man Danny Wallace turns up at the commuter’s door, and away they go, money in hand, to film the fun-fuelled hijinks, for you to watch, enjoy and vote on, for the person who’s already had the best fun to also win a car.
The car in question is a Volvo V40 D2 (115hp) R-Design, 6-speed Manual worth £22,295 OTR (we’re reliably informed).
The campaign is a bit of a devil-may-care departure for Volvo, which, in the past, has been seen as a dependable – yet staid – marquee. Not one you’d necessarily associated with such free-spirited behaviour.
Because watching people have fun spending £5,000 is almost as good as doing it yourself, take a gander at the video, and click-through to vote on your favourite. Voting starts from April 10, 2013.
And if it makes things easier, see it as some kind of subversive pleasure. Danny Wallace is the man behind Random Acts of Kindness: 365 Ways To Make the World A Nicer Place, after all.
