There’s a big sound to Matthew & Me, whose latest EP is getting a special launch night at the much-lauded South Devon Arts Centre in Totnes on Friday, July 12. But can you expect from a band which is banging on the door of the big time.
Matthew & Me hail from the wilds of Totnes, Devon, a town known for its creative flair. Perhaps it’s this environment that inspires their music of atmospheric, haunting arrangements blended seamlessly with big, unabashed choruses and beautifully ethereal vocals, says the press release. Either way, there should be head nodding, foot stomping, arm raising experience at the EP launch. Maye you should pop along to sample what looks like being a super night.
Matthew & Me’s reputation precedes them, and they have built a strong live following and reputation.
They’ve also managed to win of Communion, John Kennedy and award-winning producer Bruno Ellingham (you may know him from his work with Doves, Maccabees and Elbow, to name but a few) – who has produced the five tracks on Matthew & Me’s forthcoming MMXIII EP.
Matthew & Me often are renowned for their imaginative events, performing at an eclectic range of venues from Elizabethan glasshouses to country estates, boats and Great Halls. They recently sold out London dates at Hoxton Hall, Book Club and The Trinity Centre.
The release of their first EP proper MMXIII comes hot on the heals of their debut single Alright. Two of the EP’s tracks Modern Life (see the video below) and Hide and Seek will also be released on 7” vinyl, for you traditionalists out there. Both are released via Quiet Recordings on July 15.
Following on from their showcases at Dot to Dot festival, Matthew & Me are playing the following UK shows to celebrate the EP’s release (with additional London dates to be announced for the week of EP release):
