Torbay and health inequality could go hand in hand, and the area has now become one of 14 areas across the country to be designated an official trailblazer in how it provides health services.
Is this another gimmick that erodes the NHS while providing a lip-service fillip to services?
Torbay MP Adrian Sanders has the welcomed initiative, which confers Integration Pioneer Status on the Bay.
According to the blurb, the new status integrates mental health services and promote a seven-day service for the NHS. There will also be efforts to tackle the root causes of healthcare problems.
Adrian said: “We face quite a few challenges in terms of health and social care but these are admirably being met and I hope that this status will allow Torbay to go even further in providing innovative approaches to tackling these challenges.”
Apparently, Torbay has long been an innovator in providing health and social care since the formation of the Torbay Care Trust, which is now known as the South Devon and Torbay Clinical Commissioning Group.
