Picnic l(a)unch

It’s with a little shame that I have to admit the last time I had a picnic camels were employed to take all the food I thought I’d need - and that was on the moor. But if you’re after picnic elegance then go no further than the Exeter Phoenix from Friday.

Heike Rindt will be displaying her wonderful collection of picnic boxes (70 in all), in all kinds of colours and combinations - pink plates, square cups (go figa, the kooks). It should be a sight to behold.

And if you fancy sampling the outdoor lifestyle, there is the Big Picnic at Haldon Forest on Sunday (there’s a hike with Bovey Tracy artist Simon Egan or a free bus from the Phoenix). It’s all rather grand, and it don’t stop there.

There’s just enough time (maybe) for you to submit your own pictures to the picnic event. Picnic Pictures, curated by Carol Harvey in collaboration with Heike Rindt, will be on show at the Phoenix too.

Phew, it’s enough to have you reaching for the sweaty sandwiches.
