Something For The Weekend #8

Regular readers of the People’s Republic could be forgiven for assuming the
This Is Exeter website is pretty much beyond parody. Sprawling, right-wing and frequently proper fucking surreal, This Is Exeter is a constant source of piss-taking fun during slow news days at PRSD Towers.

Which is why we know you’ll get a kick outta This Isn’t Exeter. Granted, the writing isn’t as sharp as it should be (’man shits himself during a thunderstorm’ is hardly something you’d find on The Onion) but there are plenty of great little touches (like the Shit Jobs section, featuring ‘Bin Man’ and ‘Dinner Lady’) and it should have Northcliffe’s lawyers furiously spitting their brandy over the Missus’s Mercedes. Plus, This Isn’t Exeter is helluva lot easier to navigate than the real thing!

Our advice is, you’d better catch it now before those Cease And Desist orders come flooding in. It’s a hoot!

It’s just not fair

There just aren’t enough fairtrade goods to go around, apparently.

People would like to buy more, if only they had more choice and more information about just what it was they were being fair about. That’s the findings of a Fruit Passion (Somerset-based fairtrade drinks company) survey.

Even in the hotbed of organics, the south west (which contains nearly 25 percent of the UK total organic farms), people would opt more strong for fairtrade goods.

Good news for Sainsbury’s, which claims to be the fairest of them all when it comes to supermarkets, and which launched a fairtrade range of clothes last month. Heck, call me old fashioned, I’d rather workers were treated well and be done with the label, but where’s the cachet value in that? Hmm something to ponder over my daily dose of Green & Blacks (owned by Cadbury Schweppes).
